GAA inaugural conference in Bangkok cancelled for safety reasons.

On Monday, a bomber remotely denoted a backpack at the Erawan Shrine in the middle of downtown Bangkok, causing loss of life, injuries and property damage. Global Affinity Alliance and the WCA are concerned first and foremost with the safety and security of our members who travel to our conferences, regardless of where in the world they are held. It is for this reason that we have decided to cancel our scheduled Inaugural Conference October 18-21 in Bangkok.

Bangkok, Thailand is a major global city for business and industry and we are proud to call it home.

Bangkok, Thailand is a major global city for business and industry and we are proud to call it home.

Several years ago when the political situation was unstable in Thailand, with less than two weeks to go before the WCA’s major annual conference a decision was made to cancel out of an abundance of caution.

There are always inherent risks in travel. We understand that, especially those of us who have traveled the globe for many years. Besides this single horrible act, travel insurance to Thailand has become more difficult to obtain in recent months. Additionally, nearly twenty-five countries have issued official travel advisory notices warning their citizens of the danger of traveling to Thailand.

Thailand is home to the WCA. We believe in the country, we believe in the Thai people and we are committed to maintain our presence and office.

We are confident about the things we can control; we are wary of the things we cannot.

Please accept our most sincere apologies for this change in plans and we will continue to identify the best time to reschedule this major and important event for the GAA.
